WHAT IS A LEGACY LETTER?
A legacy letter is something separate from your will. It costs nothing, and is intended to affirm your faith, state your values, tell your stories, impart your wisdom, and to count your blessings for family, friends and future generations.
Since a legacy letter is not a legal document, it can be in any form you choose, from a video “face-to-face” message to a handwritten letter of love.
WHY SHOULD I WRITE A LEGACY LETTER?
Preserving your wisdom and your love establishes a link in the chain of generations, passing on a legacy for those of tomorrow's world.
Your Legacy Letter will be a roadmap leading your family to better decisions and more fulfilling uses of their time and assets. And if your estate plan includes charitable giving, explaining why particular causes were important to you could inspire a continuing tradition of giving in your family that does good for generations.
WHO SHOULD READ MY LETTER?
There’s no limit! Many people focus on a durable message for their children, in particular the passing of a torch of faith that, hopefully, will help their children and loved ones know what lessons you have learned along the way in your life...the ethical, spiritual, and religious values that you have honored and upheld, and the wisdom you want to pass along to those who will follow.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR A LEGACY LETTER?
We’re told the story of a Legion friend who recently sat with a favorite uncle, talking as they usually did about anything and everything mundane. The next day, the uncle was suddenly gone, and our friend is troubled now by how he never told his uncle how much that kind man had changed his nephew’s life.
DON'T WAIT...SAY IT NOW
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
The cost of writing a Legacy Letter is zero...though its value is priceless.
As a dear friend of the Legion of Christ, we’d be happy to assist you (without cost or obligation, of course) in creating this priceless gift for your family, your friends and for future generations.
